The door swings open, a good solid door that almost feels like it should have a bell on it to alert the world of your arrival. The aspiring musician behind the register flashes the kind of smile that only people who’ve never given up on their dreams get to wear. The tattoo clad baristas quickly and expertly run their cloths over the counter like they’re cleaning up a murder scene.
Free WiFi With A View In Swarthmore, Pa…
Here’s the rundown on what makes this cozy cafe stand out so well in our minds.
Why We Love It
For starters, the coffee. It’s strong and reasonably priced plus the people who serve it are wearing outfits they clearly picked out themselves which, for inexplicable reasons, makes you, as the coffee drinker/ future award winning author, feel like you’ve entered a more creative zone, a place where that creative license is always accepted. Additionally, the food which is tasty and often cooked to order. Additionally, the ambience, which is trencdy without trying too hard. Bonus— The burlap curtains and floor to ceiling glass storefront help to enhance the vibe.
What’s The Atmosphere?
In a nutshell, indie, laid back, non-corporate. This shop could easily play the backdrop in a steampunk film. Shuffling in and out are Swarthmore college students, dog walking enthusiasts and baby boomers in ankle length skirts with sneakers. A sea of open laptops and a decent collection of board games and comic books surround the perimeter of the brewery.
What’s The View?
A train station, an ever changing art wall and an almost city street that paints a rather accurate mental picture of this almost city town. If you’ve yet to visit off the beaten path attractions in Swarthmore, PA and you make it out to Hobbs Coffee, you should consider sticking around awhile in order to uncover even more hidden gems in Delco, Pennsylvania. In the meantime, please feel free to enjoy this captivating video of the charming town of Swarthmore from an aerial perspective.
Where To Cop A Thinking Spot
The four top table nestled in the little elevated enclave that’s pressed up against the largest window is a great place to start. If you plan on bringing your pet along, they’ll find a nice refreshing drink in the outside seating section where you can watch the passing train.
About The Poem At The Top Of This Page
The people’s poet Langston Hughes straddled the lines of fiction and non fiction while battling oppression and segregation. There is much debate about the meaning of the above-listed poem which he entitled “Walkers With The Dawn”. We at TPG hear within it the promise of a bright tomorrow, which is something we believe you’ll find at Hobbs Coffee. Cheers to the future and be sure to check out “The Collected Poems of Langston Hughes ” for more.
