Why We Love It
Amalgam Comics and Coffeehouse is a window into the New World the millennial generation is bent on building. This world is vibrant and full of life, a place where anything can happen, a place so magical it’s almost supernatural. Superheros serve an even bigger purpose in real life when they are put to use as a way of bringing community members together in love, peace and harmony. In addition to the many classic comic book favorites gracing the shelves of this intimate gathering space, there are also local indie efforts for sale. This is definitely the top spot to visit for writers hoping to break into the ever booming, comic book industry.
What’s The Atmosphere?
Nerdy in a fun way. Like most classic comic book oriented events spaces, (think about the last comic oriented convention you attended) Amalgam, Comics and Coffeehouse draws quite the diverse crowd and, according to its bubbly owner, that’s sort of the point. Trend seekers and walking dead fans are guaranteed to feel comfortable here.
What’s The View?
Catch an eyeful of Philadelphia’s Frankford Avenue street level through panes of window front glass. Inside, a polished New Age interior complete with industrial touches and chock-full of tasty treats serves as the perfect showcase for caricature delights. Don’t believe us? See for yourself in the video posted below:
Where To Cop A Thinking Spot
Quaff a latte underneath the brick dome along the wall. The exposed brick protruding over the matte colored surface adds a textural touch to the visual element of the place, plus you can see the circumference of the shop from this angle. Fun literary fact— The word quaff means to “drink down a beverage with enjoyment” for all you fellow bloggers out there who are running out of ways to describe drinking a beverage 🙂
About The Excerpt At The Top Of This Page
The Batman comics never go out of style. They simply get better with time. As seen here in the Paul Dini and Bruce Timm edition entitled ” Mad Love “. The story shown above exemplifies how easy it is to “turn the tables” and find yourself in someone else;s shoes. Harley Quinn (the counselor) pours her heart out to Joker who was really supposed to be her patient. As this twisted love story unravels, we meet the real life Harley Quinn, an idiosyncratic character with many layers who is so much deeper than what you see on the surface. Like Harley, the Amalgam Comics and Coffeehouse is packing a bigger punch than you might expect upon first glance.
